The Land of Waterfalls! ..
Tucked away in a corner of western North Carolina, Transylvania County is a scenic wonderland. The name itself, meaning "across the woods," is very apt. Over 80% of the county's 379 square miles is lush, green forest land, with sparkling waterfalls scattered throughout. It is said that there are some 250 falls, though some are on private property and some are (almost) inaccessible. But there are enough beautiful, shining falls to take your breath away.
Besides waterfalls, you'll also discover other mountain vistas of rare natural beauty. In this area of the Appalachians where northern and southern vegetation mingle, the variety is infinite -- oak, poplar, balsam fir, spruce, laurel and rhododendron. In their season, azaleas flame yellow, orange and red against the evergreens; rhododendrons bloom lushly in the "pink beds," as well as lavender and deep purple. In fall, rich reds and golds light up the majestic mountains.
If you enjoy hiking, follow some of the many picturesque trails -- easy to strenuous, depending upon your capability. You may also enjoy the unlimited possibilities for camping; the 200 miles of clear streams and lakes for fishing and boating; fine golf courses; and a score or more of excellent private summer camps. An outstanding and unique attraction in the summer is the Brevard Music Center and Camp, which has won this city recognition as the music center of the South.
Far from being a sleepy mountain town, Brevard offers quaint antique shops plus interesting places to eat and browse, all set in a charming, tree-lined downtown center.

Brevard Chamber Orchestra-The Orchestra is a Professional Orchestra and is the Orchestra in Residence at the Porter Center for the Performing Arts.
